== Introduction ==
The Grand Alliance University System (GAUS) oversees all civilian academy programs including: the Civilian Space Services Academy (CSSA), Gryphon Planetary University (GPU), the Star Kingdom University System (SKUS), and the Sphinx Forestry Service (SFS). This allows for a combined administrative staff to provide support and oversite to all civilian educational programs. Each one of the four main educational programs underneath the GAUS banner has its own special focus – mainline rank coursework for each of the civilian branches and specialty courses that give subject area specific training in a number of content areas that range from leadership, to xenobiology, marine engineering, basic aviation, and the list goes on and on.

The Regent is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the Grand Alliance University System including supervising the various academy heads, the development of new courses within each academy (in cooperation with the BuTrain Course Development staff), overseeing faculty and staff, and the hiring and relieving of all faculty and staff.

=== Commandants, Provosts, Headmasters, and Regents ===
As noted above, GAUS encompasses four different civilian academy programs. Each one of these is headed by an individual under a specific title appropriate to that academy. One of these individuals is designated and simultaneously serves as the GAUS Deputy Regent. The commandant of the Civilian Space Services Academy oversees the mainline and specialty course offerings for the Merchant Fleet Academy and the Royal Manticoran Astro-Control Academy. A provost heads the Gryphon Planetary University, while a headmaster leads the Sphinx Forestry Service programs. Finally, a regent oversees the Star Kingdom University System, which includes Landing and Mannheim universities. These individuals all oversee the courses, staff, and instructors within their specific institutions.
