Commanded by then-[[CDR]] Jack Yeager, from his flagship {{hms|Roland|DD-476}}, this division's area of operations included [[wikipedia:Conta Costa County|Contra Costa County]] and the [[wikipedia:Greater Sacramento|Greater Sacramento]] area of [[wikipedia:California|California]].<br />

DesDiv 231 was formed and established in June 2016 with [[Naval Directive 16JUN-01]] from the acting [[First Space Lord]], [[ADM]] [[Lord]] [[Sir]] John Roberts, to [[CDR]] Yeager to assume command. Its charter member vessels were {{hms|Roland|DD-476}} (flagship) and {{hms|Chainshot|DD-372}}. The division was dissolved on August 23, 2016, when ''Roland'' upgraded to the superdreadnought, {{hms|Intractable|SD-459}}. With only ''Chainshot'' left within the division, it was rendered an unsustainable echelon force.<br />
