Fire Control Technician (abbrev FT) is an enlisted technical specialty or rating utilized by the Royal Manticoran Navy.

Description

File:RMN Fire Control Technician.png

Fire Control Technicians maintain the electronic equipment used in ship's weapons systems. They are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the complex electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment required to ensure the accuracy of Navy guided-missile systems. They are also responsible for ship safety by recognizing and analyzing data from several critical systems including lidar, radar, gravitics, visual, radio, and missile telemetry inputs.

Historical Overview

Fire control technician (abbreviated as FT) is a United States Navy occupational rating.

Fire control technicians perform organizational and intermediate level maintenance on United States Navy Submarine combat control systems and equipment, and associated test equipment including tactical computer systems and peripherals.[1]

The Fire Control Technician (FT) is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the submarine's computer and control mechanisms used in weapons systems and related programs. You cannot enlist with a guarantee for this rating. Instead, you enlist in the Navy's Submarine Electronics/Computer Field (SECF). Following Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) and the first portion of the Submarine Learning Center pipeline course, you are assigned to be trained as ET-COM, ET-NAV, FT, or STS. Your rating is determined from your preferences, scores received in the above two schools, and the "needs of the Navy."

Fire Control Technicians must attend the following "A" Schools:

  • Groton, CT — 4 weeks (Basic Enlisted Submarine School)
  • Groton, CT — 18 weeks (Submarine Learning Center)

Note: The Submarine Learning Center includes Apprenticeship Technical Training, Tactical Computer Network Operations, or TCNO, and FT "A-School." Some students may be selected for advanced training ("C-School,") prior to shipping out to the fleet.
